William Post dies at 96: Cause of death and obituary information

William Post died on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. According to a family obituary that provided no further details, William Post passed away on Saturday.

According to the Enquirer, Post worked for Keebler Company as a plant manager in the early 1960s. Executives from Kellogg’s questioned him regarding the viability of Keebler creating a toaster pastry that would endure shelf life.

“Bill is often credited for having ‘invented’ the Pop Tart at this juncture,” reads Post’s obituary. Actually, Bill would say, “I put together an incredible team that turned Kellogg’s idea for a shelf-stable toaster pastry into a wonderful product that we could bring to market in just four months.'”

The product that the executives were describing is similar to a Pop-Tart nowadays. For what it was worth, they told Post, they were searching for something that resembled a pie, roughly the size of a slice of bread, with fork marks all the way around and two pieces of dough filled in.

Kellanova, the owner of Pop-Tarts, asserts that Post developed the idea into a workable product.
