Eric Opoku, Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, accused the government of stealing GH¢750 million in 2023 from the District Assemblies Common Fund to purchase computers for SHS pupils.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, revealed that the government intends to deliver over 1.4 million tablets to pupils at Wesley Girls Senior High institution under the free SHS program over the next two months to help boost teaching and learning in the institution.

The Asunafo South MP claimed in an interview with Citi News that the diversion will hinder district-level development.

Furthermore, he said that the government was planning to redirect an extra GH¢750 million for the same reason.

The majority of the assembly are doing nothing at all since they [the government] stole GH¢750 million from the Common Fund intended for the assemblies’ growth.

“They plan to add an additional GH¢750 million this year, bringing their total budget for the laptop purchase to GH¢1.5 billion.”
