The Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo, has confirmed that more than 500 applications have been submitted for the position of coach of the Black Stars, but he has reassured Ghanaians that the best coach will be chosen.

Chris Hughton’s dismissal following Ghana’s early elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations left the post vacant. As the head of the GFA-assembled five-person committee, Addo is spearheading the hunt for a new coach.

He was a member of the selection committee for Milovan Rajevac, whose brief second tenure as Ghana’s coach ended with his dismissal three months into his job following Ghana’s first-round elimination from AFCON 2021.

According to Addo, “This is my second time leading a committee to pick a coach, and I can tell Ghanaians that we will hire the best coach for the Black Stars according to the criteria.”

“We have shortlisted a small number of the over 500 applications we received for the position,” he said. We intend to complete them by next week, so we are presently working through them.”

He stated, “Nobody wants outcomes more than we (the FA), believe me; it just so happens that things don’t always go as planned for various reasons, but we must keep moving forward.”
