Patrick Wisdom Krampah, former headmaster of Ahamansu L. A. Erishad Primary School in the Oti Region, was arrested last Monday by the Jasikan Police and placed in detention for allegedly raking in unearned salary of GH¢72,759.32.
Last Friday, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), directed the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to engage the police to arrest Krampah for financial misconduct against the government.
A source close to the Jasikan Police, who confirmed the suspect’s detention to the Daily Graphic, claimed Krampah was supporting the police with their investigations.
According to the PAC, Krampah quit his position as headteacher on February 1, 2018, to work as a project assistant for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
This is from the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report on the Account of Ghana – Ministries, Departments, and Other Agencies for the Year Ended December 31, 2020, which was presented to the committee on January 31, 2024.
According to the study, Krampah got unearned salaries between February 2018 and June 2020.
Meanwhile, the Auditor-General has advised that the District Director of Education recover the sum from Krampah, plus interest at the current bank rate, and deposit it in the Auditor-General’s Recovery Account at the Bank of Ghana.
Krampah’s actions were clearly against the Public Financial Management Regulation, according to Dr. Avedzi.
