Luigi Arienti was best known as an Italian racing cyclist. At the 1960 Summer Olympics, he and teammates Marino Vigna, Mario Vallotto, and Franco Testa won an Olympic gold medal in the team pursuit, with a time of 4:30.90. He was one of the best Italian amateur cyclists in 1960, and was selected for the Olympic games.
Following the Games, Luigi Arienti turned professional, specializing in track events and six-day racing, and became one of the best Italian amateur cyclists in 1960. He retired in 1972 after an illustrious career. In recognition of his remarkable sporting accomplishments, he was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
