The Ministry of Interior has extended the curfew hours for Bunkpurugu and the neighboring Northeast Region areas by Executive Instrument.
Several battles between various factions in Bunkpurugu have resulted in a large number of fatalities and property damage.
In a statement signed by Interior Minister Ambrose Dery and obtained by citinewsroom.com, the government urged the residents to maintain peace in the area by exercising restraint and using non-violent methods.
It is forbidden for any resident of Bunkpurugu Township and the surrounding areas to own a gun, ammunition, or other kind of offensive weapon. The curfew is in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The Minister for the Interior has by Executive Instrument renewed the Curfew hours imposed on Bunkpurugu Township and its environs in the North East Region from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am effective Tuesday, February 6, 2024
The government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bunkpurugu Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
