The family of the deceased first-year student at the Eastern Region’s Aburi Girls Senior High School (SHS) has sworn to sue the school’s administration.
Miss Danso, the aunt of the dead, stated in an interview with Kasapa FM that if it is proven that the school’s inactivity caused the regrettable tragedy, they cannot escape punishment.
If an inquiry reveals that the school was negligent in causing our daughter’s death, we will sue them. Since the school’s sick bay was unable to care for the ill child, the administrators were responsible for making sure she was transferred to the hospital for treatment.
“From Aburi Girls to Mampong Hospital (Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital) is no distance. Nothing stopped the school authorities from taking her to the hospital and subsequently informing her family to come over to visit her. None of these were done, they looked on for the girl to die,” the aggrieved relative stated.
On Monday, February 5, 2024, the 15-year-old student sadly passed suddenly after claiming to have excruciating stomach pains.
The student is said to have been refused medical assistance by the school nurse, who allegedly accused her of continually pretending to be unwell. She was dead when she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police have started an inquiry, and the body of the deceased student has been placed at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital awaiting autopsy.
