Ghana Card holders will no longer have to apply separately for a passport – Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that if he is elected in 2024, Ghana Card holders will no longer be required to apply for passports separately.

According to him, cardholders will simply pay the passport application fee via electronic transfer, specifically mobile money, while also providing their GhanaCard numbers.

Addressing Ghanaians on Wednesday, February 7, he stated that the Ghana Card already contains a person’s biometric information, implying that there is no need to complete a passport application form.

“To make it easier for Ghanaians to obtain passports, under my administration, any Ghana Card holder will only have to pay a fee for a passport.

It is not necessary for you to apply for a passport separately if you already have a GhanaCard.

“To pay the fee using your mobile device, simply enter the number from your Ghana Card. This is so because, according to him, the Ghana Card has all the data and biometrics needed to serve as a standard passport.

The Vice President emphasized that using this method, a person’s passport can be delivered to them while they are at home.

“Your passport can then be delivered to your home using your digital address,” he stated.

He clarified that when this strategy is put into practice, Ghanaians won’t have to struggle to obtain a passport.
