Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of the republic and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, is anticipated to announce his campaign team by Monday, February 12, 2024, a senior aide exclusively revealed to Asaase News.

This is going to happen after his planned speech to the people of Ghana on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. It is anticipated that his speech will successfully launch the party into campaign mode. When Dr. Bawumia declares his candidacy to be elected as the 6th President of the 4th Republic in December 2024, he is expected to highlight the accomplishments of the ruling party during the two terms of President Nana Akufo-Addo and to outline his vision for Ghana.

According to Asaase News sources, the field of candidates for head of the campaign team has shrunk to three prominent NPP figures.

These are former NPP general secretary Dan Botwe, who led the party to victory in 2000 and again under President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2004. In addition, he serves as Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGRD) and MP for Okere, Eastern Region. For over 25 years, Mr. Botwe has been a crucial strategist for the NPP and is well-liked by the grassroots. He leaves the Parliament in 2024.

Peter Mac Manu, a former national chairman of the NPP and President Akufo-Addo’s successful campaign manager in 2016 and 2020, is also ranked highly on the list. Me Mac Manu, like Mr. Botwe, has institutional memory and has been an important part of national campaigns for more than 20 years, starting as the party’s Western Regional Chairman.

Kwabena Agyepong is an intriguing name worth taking into consideration. Former NPP general secretary and presidential spokesman under John Agyekum Kufuor, she ran for president twice (in 2008 and 2024).

In 1998, he managed Nana Akufo-Addo’s first presidential primary campaign. Me Agyepong has supported Candidate Bawumia wholeheartedly since August 2023 and is anticipated to be a key player in the party’s attempt to secure a record-breaking third consecutive term in government.

It is anticipated that “Team Bawumia” will be revealed, featuring a number of notable political figures and charismatic individuals.

Some of these important campaign figures have already made their presence felt. Nana Akomea, Fred Oware, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Joe Anokye, John Boadu, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Krobea Asante, and Opare Ansah are among them.

It will be expected of the campaign manager to oversee the whole group. When selecting a campaign manager, the NPP customarily looks for someone who is well-versed in the party, enjoys the party’s respect, has run campaigns before, and is unencumbered by things like being a member of parliament or a government appointee holding an executive position.

In order to achieve this, the position of campaign manager normally belongs only to “True Blues,” as it will require successfully managing the candidate’s entire campaign and developing a plan that will help Bawumia win the parliamentary and presidential elections on December 7.
