Following a confrontation to disperse a vicious mob in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, two people have been confirmed dead after allegedly being struck by stray bullets fired by the police.

The incident reportedly took place at the chief’s palace, where the police had gone to save a suspected murder suspect at Adwumasu, a farming town in the Kwahu South Municipality. All accounts point to the chief’s palace.

According to accounts, Akua Kyerewaa, a 45-year-old woman, was raped and killed by the suspect, Kwasi Tenkorang, a 23-year-old ex-convict.

Also struck on the skull by a metal rod during the incident was Kwasi Antwi, the victim’s 65-year-old brother, who tried to save his sister. This led to his immediate demise.

An eyewitness, whose name was only revealed as Frederick, saw the incident and was being pursued by the suspect when he narrowly avoided death while traveling to the farm.

After going missing following the event, the suspect was apprehended on Sunday, February 4, and brought to the chief’s palace.

When word spread about the arrest, members of the community attacked the palace, demanding his immediate release in exchange for swift justice. However, the police intervened and stopped it from happening.

As a result of their frustrations not being satisfied, the community members, according to Citi News, started throwing stones at the police, which led to the destruction of four police motorcycles and a service truck.

Five individuals were unintentionally hurt when the police fired warning bullets to try to disperse the throng; two of them are said to have died, and the other three are being treated at the Kwahu Government Hospital in Atibie.
