We need a framework that goes beyond political parties – Alan Kyerematen

A detailed plan for resolving the nation’s current economic crisis has been presented by Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen.

In order for Ghana to advance, the former Trade Minister emphasized that a new political framework that cuts across party lines must be adopted.

This is especially true, he claims, given the current NDC and NPP duopoly, in which successive governments take office and scrap initiatives started by their predecessors.

Moving past the duopoly is crucial, according to Mr. Kyerematen, who made this statement on Saturday, February 3, on JoyNews Newsfile, since the division it creates is unsustainable and bad for the nation.

The former US ambassador clarified that in a duopoly, there is a lack of continuity in governance, which affects the execution of policies and plans started by succeeding administrations.

He claims that the winner-take-all mentality prevents the potential to make use of the available talents.

“So if there was this understanding that we are working towards one common objective, there has to be continuity… then we agree on an operation plan that there are so many people in Ghana, so many categories who require different types of housing, and this is basically how we should go about delivering houses, and then a government comes in, they start, and another party comes in, they continue,” he explained.

In the same interview, the Movement for Change’s leader urged Ghanaians to take his message of rebuilding the economy seriously, citing his track record and authority.

He claims that people have a propensity to write politicians off without taking into account their qualifications and accomplishments both outside and inside government.

According to him, Ghanaians may have heard politicians repeat the same points time and time again, but the important thing to remember is who is communicating.

“Who is the messenger matters more than the message itself. To whom are you paying attention? That is the crucial factor. I cannot abide by the statements made in the past by other politicians.

“I want people to listen to me and understand what I’m saying based on my record and credibility,” he stated.
