The reported January 8, 2024, death of singer Amos Zumankyere, 27, by a police officer in Loho, Nadowli-Kaleo District, incited enraged inhabitants of Loho to attack the Upper West Regional Police Headquarters.
Two police officers stopped the deceased and a buddy who was riding a motorcycle back from Kaleo, according to reports, as part of routine checks.
Story after story claims that Skelenzy was shot by an unprovoked police officer, seriously hurting him.
After the bullet entered his abdomen, the young musician had two surgeries. Five days ago, Skelenzy tragically passed away from his wounds, but amazingly, his companion Fedelis survived a gunshot wound to the thigh.
Enraged youngsters from Loho, driven by grief, stormed the Upper West Regional Police Headquarters demanding that Skelenzy be given justice.
They demanded that the offending police officer be held legally accountable and that Skelenzy’s remains be buried in a respectable manner.
Following a meeting with DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, the Regional Police Commander, the leaders were notified that the police officer in question had been suspended and that preparations were underway to have Skelenzy’s body released for the last farewell.
