General Corporal Wise Bessey, a police officer assigned to the Takoradi District Police Command, has been placed under arrest for allegedly assaulting a civilian.
The interdiction is intended to give time for a comprehensive investigation into the event and the police officer’s professional behavior under Police Service Regulations.
Following their conversation with the victim, the Inspector General of Police promised a thorough investigation, according to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Friday, February 2.
“For an alleged assault on a member of the public in Takoradi, Western Region, the Ghana Police Service has interrogated a police officer, № 49187 General Corporal Wise Bessey, stationed at the Takoradi District Police Command.”
“The victim has been contacted by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), who has assured him of the necessary police assistance and a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
In carrying out our mandate, the police will make every effort to maintain professionalism, as we would like to reassure the public,” the statement from the department stated.
