Argentina, the reigning world champions, have chosen to play Nigeria in an international friendly rather than the Black Stars.
According to earlier reports, Argentina and the Ghana Football Association had established a preliminary agreement for Argentina to play the Black Stars in an international friendly in March.
On March 26, 2024, a friendly match against the four-time African champions was scheduled to take place in China.
Nonetheless, Argentina has already made the decision to play Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, the quarterfinalists for the AFCON 2023.
Nigeria defeated Cameroun 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals, while Côte defeated Senegal 5-4 on penalties to advance as the reigning champions.
Out of their five confrontations, Argentina has triumphed three times, with the Super Eagles winning the other two.
Additionally, in both encounters with Ivory Coast, the World Champions prevailed.
Following an agreement with a Chinese firm, the Argentine football team stated on Monday that it will play two African opponents during the friendly window in March when it travels to China.
As they prepare to defend their continental title in the US, the Albiceleste will have challenges from their two steadfast allies, Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
Argentina’s visit of China will include a match against Nigeria at the Olympics Sports Center stadium in Hangzhou.
