According to our research, he suffered a heart attack right before taking a new job in Panama. Michael Healy was a businessman from Nicaragua and a former political prisoner. He passed away on January 25, 2024, in Panama City, where he was supposed to start a new job, according to family and friends who spoke with Confidential.

Healy served as the last president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), which was dissolved and taken. Under the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, Healy was jailed on October 21, 2021, and exiled to the United States on February 9, 2023.

In September 2020, Healy won the presidency of Cosep and a year later, the dictatorship jailed him and his vice president, cattle producer Álvaro Vargas. Healy received a thirteen-year prison sentence after being found guilty of crimes that the dictatorship had manufactured in May 2022. The conviction represented yet another act of aggression directed towards the businessman in agriculture, from whom the regime had seized multiple properties.

Although they were relieved to see that Healy was in good spirits, his family was upset to see how much weight he had lost while incarcerated. Following his release from prison and placement under house arrest, Pedro Joaquín Chamorro, the then-imprison politician, briefly shared a cell with Jose Adan Aguerri, the previous leader of Cosep.
