According to Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, the chief executive of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the organization has effectively disbursed over GH₵700 million to support MSMEs (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises) in the nation.
In her appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, Madam Yankey-Ayeh emphasized the importance of these interventions and noted how the funds helped to empower and support a wide range of businesses in different industries both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You should never be satisfied with what you get in life,” she said in response to a question concerning the sufficiency of the payouts. Thus, I believe that people ought to want more, and I would want more. Therefore, “Is it enough?” shouldn’t be the question. ‘How can we do more for people?’ should be the question.
The government’s priorities, according to the chief executive, are expanding and improving support for MSMEs.
“No government or agency has disbursed so much funding to micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises in the way we’ve done in this nation’s history,” she said. It’s never happened before, so it’s unprecedented.”
Madam Yankey-Ayeh emphasized the significance of acknowledging the exceptional character of the agency’s efforts in assisting small businesses in addition to assessing the funds’ adequacy.
She advocated for a change in viewpoint, saying, “‘Is it too small?’ should not be the question. Because even making the attempt is more important than that.”
