A 27-year-old mason has been placed under arrest by the Accra Circuit Court after he was accused of robbing two people at gunpoint of their cell phones and cash.

Nigerian Victor Amidon entered a not-guilty plea, claiming he had been informed he resembled the alleged robber. Victor Amidon was charged with two counts of robbery.

The people who arrested Amidon claimed he was the same height as the alleged offender. Amidon informed the Samuel Bright Acquah-presiding court.

In an intercession, Deputy Superintendent of Police Maxwell Oppong asked the court to remand the accused to conduct further investigations and apprehend any accomplices.

According to the prosecution, there were two complainants: Victor Afenyo, a welder who lived close to the first complainant’s home, and Emil Anku, a plumber who lived in Seduase, Accra.

According to DSP Oppong, the first complainant’s home was stormed by the accused and five other people brandishing cutlasses, pistols, and action guns.

According to the prosecution, the first complainant’s door was broken by the gang, and Amidon and two other people entered the room, ordering the first complainant to turn over his money and cell phone at gunpoint.

DSP Oppong claims the accused stole the complainant’s original Techno Spark 7 phone, stole GH2,400, and broke into the first complainant’s room.

According to DSP Oppong, the second complainant emerged from his room and headed towards the scene after being startled by the gang’s disturbance. The second complainant was instructed to give up his phone and other belongings by Amidon after the group restrained him to the ground, according to testimony given in court.

Amidon forcibly seized the second complainant’s Techno Spark 5, according to the prosecution, and the gang ran away. According to DSP Oppong, Amidon denied the crime during the investigation when he was detained.
