Gunmen ignored Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s 24-hour curfew in Mangu, launching an attack on various towns and killing roughly 20 people.
According to reports, the bandits targeted Kwahaslalek and adjacent settlements early Wednesday. these communities are adjacent to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Jakatai, Mangu Local Government Area.
Remember that in response to the worsening security conditions in the area, Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu, emphasizing that only those performing necessary tasks were permitted to leave the local government until further notice.
Nevertheless, despite the curfew, gunmen broke into Kwahaslalek and the surrounding area, murdering around twenty to thirty people and demolishing several homes and places of worship.
The Sabon Layi region was the most severely hit at the time of this incident, with homes, places of worship, and commercial buildings being destroyed. Locals said that soldiers were complicit in the slaughter.
The insider clarified that Tuesday’s earlier occurrences at Sabon Gari and Mangu were merely intended to draw attention away from the communities.
“For the second time, my village Kwahaslalek (behind the NYSC camp) was attacked at about 12:30 am, leaving over 25 people, mostly women and children, dead.
“Houses were burnt and some persons escaped with gunshot injuries.”
He continued by saying that women were forced to flee into the community leader’s compound for safety at around midnight due to intermittent gunshots.
He bemoaned the fact that the women were slaughtered by the terrorists who broke into the property while the males were standing guard outside the neighborhood.
Mariana, Kinat, and other communities in the Mangu Halle District, as well as those bordering the Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government districts, are currently abandoned, the source continued.
