Former France midfielder Jean Petit has sadly passed away.

Jean Petit’s cause of death is not officially revealed. However, his former club Monaco announced his death on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He died at the age of 74.

“AS Monaco was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jean Petit, a former player and coach who was one of AS Monaco’s legends,” the club wrote on its website.

“He was one of the best players in the club’s history, winning numerous titles: champion in 1978 and 1982, French Cup winner in 1980”, said the club.

Jean Petit was born on September 25, 1949, in Toulouse, France. He was best known as a French football midfielder, who earned twelve international caps (one goal) for the France national team during the late 1970s.

Jean Petit played much of his professional career for AS Monaco, with whom he won the French title in 1978. He was a member of the France team in the 1978 FIFA World Cup.

Jean Petit won 12 caps in total for France and was given the Player of the Year award in 1978. He spent his entire senior career with Monaco playing 426 matches and scoring 78 goals for them between 1969 and 1982.
