Derrick Bragg died as a result of cancer. He revealed his cancer diagnosis on June 14, 2023, and died yesterday at the age of 59. His death was announced by Premier Andrew Furey who offered his condolences to the family of the member of the legislature for Fogo Island-Cape Freels.

Derrick Bragg was appointed Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and Minister Responsible for the Public Procurement Agency in the Furey government on August 19, 2020. He was re-elected in the 2021 provincial election. On April 8, 2021, he was appointed Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture.
