Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, stated that Ghana’s participation in the peace processes is essential at a meeting with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, on the fringes of the 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
To put an end to hostilities, the Ukrainian government has been trying to get support from other countries for the peace proposal. Highlights include the release of prisoners, the departure of Russian soldiers from Ukraine, environmental safety, food and energy security, and the avoidance of future aggression.
Ghana, a political and economic bulwark in the subregion, has strengthened its bilateral relations and cooperation with the fighting nations over the years, particularly in the fields of science, technology, and education.
The two leaders talked about how to strengthen ties between Ghana and Ukraine as well as with other African nations during their conversation.
They discussed the possibility of establishing hubs to export Ukrainian agricultural products to African nations as well as the education of Ghanaian students in Ukrainian colleges.
Ghana’s support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, particularly in international organizations, was commended by President Zelenskyy. Ukraine and Russia are significant producers of products.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the war has raised prices globally, particularly for gas and oil, which has increased the cost of food. The amount of wheat exported worldwide, of which 30% comes from Russia and Ukraine, has increased to all-time highs.
Oil import-dependent economies will see greater deficits and inflation, but certain exporters such as those in the Middle East and Africa may profit from higher prices.
President Zelenskyy urged international cooperation to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression during his speech at the WEF. He declared that a peace summit would be convened, ideally, in Switzerland.
The group from Ghana, headed by President Nana Akufo-Addo, met with leaders of other countries to discuss several important issues, including utilizing AI for the economy, establishing growth and jobs, and developing a long-term plan for the environment, energy, and climate change.
