The fetish priest Nana Yaw Kwarteng, who is suspected of shooting a woman who was leaving a watch-night service, has once again been placed under arrest by the Bonwire District Court.
The incident took place in Kenyase-Abirem’s Kwabre East Municipality. While riding a tricycle with her sister, another rider and her one-year-old daughter, Lydia Bohitana, 21, were shot.
Witnesses reported that the fetish priest fired several warning shots in the area that day. A state prosecutor told the court chaired by Her Worship Grace Osei during the second appearance on Friday, January 19, that the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s (A-G) office for advice.
The officer pleaded with the court to remand the suspect into custody while the police await the A-G’s ruling. The judge approved the request, placing the accused under arrest and setting February 2, 2024, as the next court date.
The family of the deceased is requesting a quick trial and increased security in the area in remarks made to the media after the proceedings.
