The University of Ghana (UG) administration has denounced the assault on a young man by some individuals on the Legon campus. A video of the incident has circulated on social media.

The video shows a naked young man being attacked by various people on the University of Ghana’s Legon campus.

According to a press statement issued by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, preliminary information gathered indicates that the young man was dressed as a female and was first seen in the Okponglo area before being transported to campus, specifically the Hilla Limann Hall area.

According to information acquired by campus security, the young guy told some women in the Okponglo area that he was looking for a place to stay.

Because of the clothes he was wearing, the women assumed he was female and offered him accommodation.
However, during the night, they found he was a male and assaulted and dismissed him from the region.

According to the explanation, “a refuse collector, assuming the young man was female, intervened and took him to a refuse collection site on the University of Ghana campus, behind Dr. Hilla Limann Hall.”

When the garbage collector discovered the young man’s true gender the next morning, he also attacked the man and gave him the order to leave the area. Students notified University of Ghana security personnel to the need for intervention,” the statement continued.

The statement claims that the young guy and the garbage collector, who are not university students, have been turned over to the Legon Police by campus security for further investigation.

As a result, the University of Ghana has reaffirmed its dedication to the security, worth, and inclusion of every individual.

The university community was not permitted to engage in vexatious behavior directed at any individual based on their race, ancestry, place of birth, origin, color, ethnic origin, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, creed, age, marital status, family status, disability, receipt of public assistance, or record of offenses, the statement said.

The administration of the institution also gave the public assurance that it will keep collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and guarantee the security of all students and visitors to its campuses.
