Lahcen Zinoun, a well-known Moroccan choreographer and director, died on Tuesday in Casablanca at the age of 79 following a protracted illness.

Zinoun, who was rushed into a clinic on short notice and is well-known for his significant contributions to dance and movies, died four days later from a brain hemorrhage.
Zinoun was raised in a low-income family in Derb Moulay Asharif, Casablanca, where his father was employed in the railway industry and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. September 1944 saw the birth of Zinoun.
Zinoun’s journey into the world of dance began in 1958 when he enrolled in the Casablanca Conservatory and was first introduced to modern dance.
Even after taking home the first dance prize from the conservatory in 1964, Zinoun still faced challenges. When his father found out about his passion for dancing, he expelled him and rejected a scholarship to pursue dance abroad.
