O’Connor and her brother Alan Day, who grew up in the American Southwest on a cattle ranch without indoor plumbing or electricity, remember with affection how difficult life was there but how it also gave them a strong work ethic.

Ann Day, an American politician, educator, and psychologist who lived from August 10, 1938, to May 7, 2016, served as an Arizona senator from 1990 to 2000. Day was a Supreme Court justice and the younger sister of Sandra Day O’Connor. Day lost his life in a drunk driver’s car crash involving three vehicles close to Tucson, Arizona.
