Shane MacGowan, the leader of The Pogues, unexpectedly passed away last month after being admitted to the hospital while suffering from viral encephalitis. After the singer’s struggle with viral encephalitis, Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke shared the tragic news of the 65-year-old frontman of The Pogues’ passing on Instagram today.
Although his official cause of death is still unknown, he had spent months in the hospital before leaving one week earlier on November 22.
The Irish celebrity was diagnosed with viral encephalitis, a rare and possibly fatal illness that causes the brain to enlarge, and has been undergoing care and treatment at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin.
Using the occasion, Shane’s wife thanked the medical staff and nurses at the hospital and made her husband’s departure known.
