Taika Waititi is the son of a Russian Jewish mother Robin Cohen, a teacher, and a Māori father Taika Waititi Sr., an artist. He spent much of his childhood living with his mother in Wellington, New Zealand, after the couple’s divorce when he was still a small boy, with frequent trips to his father’s house in Raukokore. Waititi attended Onslow College in the Wellington neighborhood of Johnsonville for his secondary education.
Waititi has also stated that his parents have provided him with a great deal of support throughout his life. In addition, Taika Waititi is the youngest of seven kids. There are two older brothers and four older sisters among his six siblings.
