On October 31, 1942, Liisa was born in Helsinki, Finland, to Eeli and Hilkka Nygård. To give their kids an opportunity at the “American Dream” in the “Land of Opportunity,” Liisa, her parents, and her brother Peter immigrated to Canada in 1952. After completing her studies at Glenlawn Collegiate, Liisa started working for Great-West Life Assurance Company. even though she was in a strange place.
In 1965, Liisa tied the knot with Russell Nichol following her first year of college. Between 1967 and 1973, they were parents to four children: Allison, David, Kris, and Angela. The family was fortunate to have Russell’s family nearby when they needed child care because they lived in Transcona.
