On October 27, 1938, Mary Lamar Rickey, an American actress better known by her stage name Lara Parker, was born. She is best remembered for her role as Angelique in the 1966–1971 ABC television series Dark Shadows. Parker, 84, passed away in Los Angeles on October 12, 2023.
Lara was a student at Central High School in Memphis when she was awarded a scholarship to Vassar College. She began her studies in philosophy at Vassar and completed them at Southwestern in Memphis (now Rhodes College), receiving a BA. She attended the University of Iowa’s graduate program while pursuing a Master’s in speech and theatre.
Lara Parker started her acting career while finishing her thesis. Lara retired from acting and went on to earn her MFA in creative writing from Antioch University. She then started teaching high school English.
Ansel Faraj and Nathan Wilson co-wrote and co-directed her final picture, The Great Nick D (shot in 2023), which also starred Kathryn Leigh Scott and David Selby from Dark Shadows.
