Carl Lumbly played activist and Congressman Ron Dellums in the Disney Channel original film The Color of Friendship in 2000. While this video primarily focused on Dellums’ daughter’s bond with a white South African child, it also explored Dellums’ pivotal role in the end of apartheid in South Africa.
Lumbly returned to television in the season one episode “Six Meetings Before Lunch” of The West Wing as Jeff Breckenridge, a nominee for U.S. Assistant Attorney General who supports reparations for slavery.
In the 2004 television series Battlestar Galactica, Lumbly played Daniel “Bulldog” Novacek, who made a crucial cameo. Additionally, he had a part in the Command and Conquer 3 expansion pack, Kane’s Wrath. In TNT’s Southland more recently, Lumbly played the role of police captain Joe Rucker.
He also voiced characters in Superman: The Animated Series, including the mayor of Metropolis in “Speed Demons” and the alien military leader Alterus in “Absolute Power.” Notably, Lumbly played the heroes Anansi in two episodes of Static Shock and Stalker in Batman Beyond.
