Liza Minnelli was born on March 12, 1946, in Hollywood, California, to famous parents Judy Garland, a singer and actress, and Vincente Minnelli, a film director.
She went to the High School of Performing Arts and Chadwick School in New York City. She spent a year at Scarsdale High School before acting in the play “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
She spent her childhood going to studios, sound stages, and seeing movies being made. She had her debut film appearance at the age of three, with her mother, in the 1949 musical ‘In the Good Old Summertime.’
She was on a successful recording binge for a decade starting in 1968. A&M Records issued her hits like ‘Liza Minnelli,’ ‘Come Saturday Morning,’ and ‘New Feelin’.
In 1989, she collaborated with the British duo Pet Shop Boys on the electronic dance-style album ‘Results.’ In the United Kingdom, the album charted in the top ten.
In 2001, she performed at Madison Square Garden in New York alongside long-time friend Michael Jackson. At the show, she sang ‘Never Never Land’ and ‘You Are Not Alone.’
She won an Emmy Award for her role as ‘Lucille Austero’ in the Emmy Award-winning TV sitcom ‘Arrested Development’ in 2004.
