Kirsty Smitten was a young British scientist who created a new class of antibiotics that could save millions of lives and avert medical catastrophe. She had her doctorate at Sheffield University. She was named in Forbes magazine’s prestigious 30 Under 30 list for science and healthcare.

Kirsty Smitten died at the age of 29 on October 4, 2023. She was diagnosed with cardiac angiosarcoma a tumour in her heart and had three months to live, and died of heart cancer. She had been undergoing treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for seven weeks before her death. Her family was by her bedside during her final hours.

Kirsty Smitten is the daughter of Kevin Smitten her father and Mrs. Smitten her mother. Her father suffered a heart attack while playing football in Portugal, last October, when they began fearing for her health.
Kirsty Smitten is not married and has no children. She has two brothers Dan and Matt. Her sister-in-law Sukhi Smitten, from Solihull, West Midlands is expecting a baby in February and she was going to be the most wonderful auntie.
