Bell was raised in the working-class high-rise apartments of Lambeth Walk after being born in Peckham, London, and had a difficult childhood.
At age ten, he participated in talent competitions for caravan holidays, which was his first exposure to the entertainment world. At the age of 28, Bell and his wife divorced after Bell had been married and had been raising a family while operating a cleaning business. He decided to pursue acting at Westminster’s Morley College, and at age 30 he graduated.
