Ashley Thomas was born on February 4, 1985, in Hammersmith, West London, to a Jamaican mother and a Dominican father. He attended St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Primary School. His family relocated to Kensal Rise, northwest London when he was 11 years old, and he attended Cardinal Hinsley High School. Thomas studied theatre at The BRIT School of Performing Arts. Before becoming an actor and performer, Thomas worked as a Royal Mail postman and then as a London bus driver.

Ashley Thomas made his television debut as Judge Wraith in the Channel 4 series Black Mirror, in addition to his music career. In the 2012 movie The Man Inside, Bashy featured alongside Peter Mullan and David Harewood.
Beginning in 2016, Thomas was selected to play Calvin Hart in the HBO limited series The Night Of, which will be helmed by James Marsh and Steve Zaillian. Thomas was cast as Isaac Carter in the title character of the 24 franchise adaption in March 2016 by 20th Century Fox Television. Thomas portrayed Luca Quinn’s (Cush Jumbo) brother in the courtroom drama The Good Fight on CBS All Access in 2018.
