John Daly was a star on the golf course but off it, he was not much of a role model

The swing coach for Daly, Butch Harmon, resigned in March 2008, declaring that the most important thing in (Daly’s) life is getting drunk.

On October 26, 2008, Daly was discovered intoxicated outside a Hooters restaurant and was taken into protective custody by Winston-Salem police.

Daly wasn’t detained or given a citation. However, the police gave his mug photo to the media, which brought about bad press.

Shortly after this event, Daly decided to give up alcohol, which led to a gradual improvement in his game and a positive transformation in his personal life.

Daly himself verified this at the Open on July 15, 2010, and since then, his game has gradually improved.
