Ross William Ulbricht, an American (born on March 27, 1984). He is now serving a life sentence in jail for founding and running the darknet marketplace Silk Road.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) detained Ulbricht in October 2013, and Silk Road was shut down as a result.
He was found guilty in 2015 of running a continuous criminal business, dealing drugs, dealing drugs over the internet, conspiring to deal drugs, conspiring to launder money, conspiring to sell fake IDs, and more.
The website promoted the sale of illicit goods and services, including drugs, while operating as a hidden service on the Tor network. In honor of the fictitious figure from The Princess Bride, Ulbricht operated the website under the alias “Dread Pirate Roberts.”
Which prison is Ross Ulbricht serving his life sentence? Will Ross Ulbricht ever be released?
He is incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson. He was actually put behind bars without the possibility of parole.
Ulbricht’s appeals to the United States Supreme Court in 2018 and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2017 both failed. As to whether Ross’ release will ever happen remains a mystery and me be dependent on luck or a higher Presidential pardon.
