The PlayStation Portal, a portable gadget made to wirelessly stream games from a PlayStation 5 (PS5) console, will soon be available, according to Sony.

Later in 2023, this cutting-edge companion item with a suggested retail price of $199.99 will be available.Screenshot 10 1

The PlayStation Portal, which debuted as “Project Q” in May, differs from its forerunners, the PSP and PlayStation Vita.

It is not a stand-alone gaming system rather, it will stream gameplay over a Wi-Fi connection to a PS5 console.

If a user has a strong internet connection, they can play top-tier PS5 games on the handheld from almost anywhere.

However, the PlayStation Portal cannot run games natively and exclusively functions as a streaming companion.

The device utilizes Sony’s Remote Play feature to beam gameplay from the user’s own PS5 console, rather than relying on cloud servers.

Users are not required to be on the same Wi-Fi network as their PS5 to use the Portal, they can only stream games they own and not through Sony’s PlayStation Plus cloud streaming feature.

The device features an 8-inch 1080p LCD display with controller handles reminiscent of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense gamepad.

These handles provide haptic feedback and the ability to charge the device via a USB-C port.

Despite offering several features, such as DualSense-like controls and USB-C charging, the Portal does not support Bluetooth for wireless headphone connections
