David Sassoli was born in 1956 in Florence.  He attended the University of Rome’s Department of Political Science.

He began his career as a journalist at the daily Il Tempo in Rome, before moving on to work for other publications and the news agency ASCA.

His first national debut was handed to him in 1985, at the Pompidou Center in Paris, when he interviewed fugitive left-wing terrorist Oreste Scalzone.

In that same year, he transferred to the editorial office of the newspaper Il Giorno in Rome, where he spent seven years covering major political and journalistic events.

During this time, he was a direct witness to pivotal historical events, such as the collapse of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, as one of many who helped bring the wall down.

He entered into politics after that spell and ended up being the President of the European Parliament from 3 July 2019 until 11 January 2022.

Sassoli was hospitalized in Strasbourg in September 2021 with a severe attack of pneumonia. He eventually died on January 11, 2022, in Aviano’s Oncological Center, at the age of 65.

Sassoli was survived by 2 daughters he had with his wife, Alessandra Vittorini. Giulio and Livia were the names of his children. Giulio and Livia have kept a low profile throughout the years.

They are known to be adults now handling their businesses in a private manner. They have no social media handles as of 2022 hence they really determined to avoid the media spotlight.

Their deceased dad however was active on Instagram with 57.8k followers and 232 posts.
