Bernhard Langer is the third child of Czech refugees Erwin and Walburga (Wally) Langer. The young couple met after his father escaped from a Russian prison camp in World War II.

Bernhard Langer has two siblings, but only one was identified as Erwin Langer. He introduced Bernhard to golf when he was eight years old, and Erwin worked as a caddie.

Erwin Langer, who is the brother and manager of Bernhard Langer and managing director of Langer Sport Marketing GmbH, was honored.

The PGA of Germany has honored Erwin in golf in Germany, who is not a member of the professional association, but who has rendered such outstanding service to golf that the PGA Lifetime Award, the Golden Golf Ball, is awarded.

Erwin accepted the prize from Rainer Goldrian, the managing director of the PGA of Germany, during the PGA gala evening in Augsburg.
