A Colorado mother was arrested on suspicion of killing her 2-month-old son due to postpartum psychosis. Anna Louise Englund, 29, was arrested on Saturday, June 11, 2023, after police responded to a welfare check at her home in Boulder, Colorado.

When police arrived, they found Englund’s son, Miles Basellio, dead in his crib. Englund was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

According to an arrest affidavit, Englund had been struggling with postpartum psychosis in the weeks leading up to the murder. She had been experiencing hallucinations and delusions, and she had been hearing voices telling her to harm her son.

On the day of the murder, Englund had taken Miles to a park and then back to her home. She then allegedly strangled him to death.

Englund is currently being held in the Boulder County Jail without bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 15, 2023.

Postpartum psychosis is a rare but serious mental illness that can occur after childbirth. It is characterized by delusions, hallucinations, and mood swings. If left untreated, postpartum psychosis can lead to violence, including infanticide.

If you or someone you know is experiencing postpartum psychosis, please seek help immediately. There are many resources available, and you don’t have to go through this alone.
