Jack Lee, a vital member of The Nerves, a significant Los Angeles band in the 1970s, and subsequently a successful composer, passed away on May 26 in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 71. Having fought colon cancer for a while, he passed away.

Blondie performed The Nerves’ rendition of Lee’s song “Hanging on the Telephone,” which is the tune for which Lee is best known. Lee was also the author of Paul Young’s “Come Back And Stay.”

The Nerves had three singer/songwriters, including Lee. The group formed in San Francisco before relocating to Los Angeles in 1977 to capitalize on the power pop craze of the time. Peter Case on bass and Paul Collins on drums accompanied guitarist Lee.
