In a heartbreaking turn of events, the wrestling community mourns the loss of one of its most iconic figures, Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, famously known as The Iron Sheik.

The Iranian-American professional wrestler, amateur wrestler, and actor, who held the distinction of being the only Iranian champion in WWE history, passed away on Wednesday-June 7, 2023, at the age of 81.

Born on March 15, 1942, in Damghan, Iran, The Iron Sheik emigrated to the United States and embarked on a career that changed the perspective of wrestling entirely.

With his undeniable charisma and intense in-ring style, he captured the hearts of fans around the world during his tenure in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in the 1980s.

The Iron Sheik’s nationality was Iranian, reflecting his birthplace and heritage. As an Iranian-American, he proudly showcased his Iranian ethnicity and contributed to the diverse tapestry of professional wrestling.
