When did Eberhard Zeidler pass away?

Eberhard Zeidler, a famous German-Canadian architect, has been confirmed dead, just four days to his 96th birthday.

Eberhard was famous for designing iconic structures and landmarks in Canada and internationally, most notably in Toronto. His myriad designs are peppered across the country.

His company Zeidler Architecture has reportedly designed over 1,000 buildings. Zeidler designed landmarks such as Ontario Place and the Eaton Centre in Toronto and Canada Place in Vancouver.

His company has said Zeidler conceived of the Eaton Centre as an “interior street” rather than merely a shopping mall.

Eberhard Zeidler passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2022, at the age of 95. He would be 95 on January 11.

Confirming the news, his company released a statement, saying: “Eb approached his work with a strong technical ability combined with humanist sensibilities.”

“His work balanced practical form while recognizing the emotional and aspirational needs of the people that occupied their spaces.”
