Australia and the entire world currently mourn one of its greatest music legends, Mildred Geraldine Joy Kirkpatrick OAM. She was known by her stage name Joy McKean.
She was known as the Queen of Australian country music, and was the first ever to receive a Golden Guitar, for writing “Lights on the Hill in 1973.
Aside from being famous for her singing and songwriting skills, she was also the wife and manager of Slim Dusty. Joy McKean was born on January 14, 1930, in Singleton, Australia.

Joy McKean had lived a great life as a singer and songwriter before meeting and marrying music legend Slim Dusty. By the time Joy McKean was 18 years old, she and her sister Heather performed live on the Saturday radio show on 2KY as the McKean Sisters.

The McKean Sisters were known for their yodeling harmonies and they began recording  in 1951 before going solo after each married separate music legends. 

Joy McKean’s death was quite a painful one. She died of cancer on 25 May 2023, at the age of 93.
