Ing. Westley Watende Omari Moore, an American politician, investment banker, novelist, television producer, and nonprofit leader, was born on October 15, 1978. He has been the 63rd governor of Maryland since 2023.
He is a Democrat and the state’s first Black governor. He is also the third Black governor elected in a state in the United States, and as of 2023, he will be the only black governor still in office.
Following P. B. S. Pinchback of Louisiana, Douglas Wilder of Virginia, Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, and David Paterson of New York, Moore is the fifth overall African American governor of a state in the United States.

In 2006, Moore and his wife Dawn (née Flythe) relocated to Baltimore’s Riverside neighbourhood. The union took place on July 6, 2007. They gave birth to their 2 children in 2011 and 2014. A shih-poo called Tucker was adopted by Moore in February 2023 from a nearby animal shelter.

Moore was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, to Joy Thomas Moore, a media professional and the daughter of Cuban and Jamaican immigrants, and William Westley Moore Jr., an African American and broadcast news journalist.
When Moore was three years old, on April 16, 1982, his father passed away from acute epiglottitis. Moore’s mother moved him and his two sisters to live with their grandparents in the Bronx, New York, for the summer of 1984.
