Father Brian Coogan was born on February 7, 1924, in the Liverpool area of Saint Helens, England. In the Diocese of Liverpool, he was christened in his parish.
Brian promoted the Charismatic Renewal message wherever he went. The movement grew especially strong in East Cowes, and he tried to attend the prayer meeting every Saturday morning he could. He was an inspiration to his church and community.

Father Brian passed on whiles receiving Palliative care at 2:15 am on March 27th, 2023. He was battling a heart condition prior.
Meanwhile, Father Brian worked and lived on the Island for 36 years and was well-known in the community as the parish priest at St David’s Church. He was born in Lancashire but spent much of his childhood in Yorkshire.
As a young guy, one of his greatest influences was the priest who inspired the Father Brown detective stories. This was eventually adapted for BBC television as a series.
Before becoming a teacher, Father Brian was ordained as a Catholic priest for the Mill Hill Missionary Society in 1947. From 1952 to 1960, he worked in his beloved Borneo and is still affectionately remembered by those he taught, including an ex-Prime Minister and two Bishops.
Father Brian returned to England and taught in Lancashire and later Basingstoke. He was appointed parish priest at St David’s in East Cowes in 1986, at the age of 64, and stayed for the next 28 years. In his early years, he was an exceptional sportsman, who loved football, rowing, and ice skating.
