Soros received his early education in Budapest, Hungary. In 1947, he emigrated to the United Kingdom and attended the London School of Economics (LSE), where he studied philosophy under the prominent philosopher Karl Popper. Soros earned a Bachelor of Science in philosophy in 1951 and a Master of Science in philosophy in 1954, both from LSE. While at LSE, Soros developed an interest in economics and financial markets, which eventually led him to a career in finance. Soros later went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in philosophy from the School of Economics and Political Science at the University of London in 1962.
