On October 14, 1955, Arleen Sorkin, an American actress, screenwriter, presenter, and retired comedian, was born. Sorkin was born in Washington, D.C. Her kin are Jewish.
She is well-known for playing Calliope Jones on the NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives and for inspiring and lending her voice to Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series and the countless animated series and video games that followed, which were made by her college classmate Paul Dini.
Sorkin began her cabaret career in the 1980s as a member of the comedy group The High-Heeled Ladies, which also included Mary Fulham, Tracey Berg, and Cassandra Danz.
Following DC Universe Online, Sorkin ceased portraying Harley Quinn, and she didn’t do so again in any other DC projects. The role was thereafter voiced by numerous women in a variety of media, usually Tara Strong or Hynden Walch.
She would play a caller on her husband Christopher Lloyd’s 1993–2004 television series Frasier, which was based on Frasier Crane’s radio show. A renowned caller would then add a voiceover to the lines. In the last Frasier episode, Sorkin makes an appearance on television as the owner of a monkey.
