Alicia Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook on January 25, 1981, in New York, New York, United States, is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, and actress who rose to prominence in the early 2000s with her combination of R&B and soul music.
Keys began performing at the age of four and playing the piano at the age of seven, focusing on classical and jazz music.
She began composing at the age of 14, and two years later graduated as valedictorian from Manhattan’s Professional Performing Arts School. Keys’ songs reflected new inspirations while remaining steeped in the sounds of previous soul musicians like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
She is one of America’s most gifted performers, as well as a philanthropist. She is a spokesperson for the organization Keep A Child Alive and has traveled to Africa on several occasions to raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic.
Alicia had some positive news to offer in 2010 despite her typical reluctance to discuss information about her personal life.
She announced in May that she was having a child with her music producer fiancé Swizz Beats. And there was more: the pair, who met in the autumn of 2008, announced their plans to marry later that year.
She is however in the news after she reacted to her throwback pictures on Instagram.
