At the age of 15, Ritchie dropped out of school and began working in entry-level positions in the film business before beginning to direct television advertisements.
He made his feature-length directorial debut with the criminal comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 after directing the short film The Hard Case in 1995.
His second picture, Snatch (2000), which was both critically and financially successful, helped him become well-known.
